Agreement
These terms apply to the public website at homelab.prestonhager.com and to every member service of Hager Homelab (“the lab”), run by Preston Hager (“we”, “us”). By using them you agree to these terms and to the privacy policy. If you don't agree, please don't use them.
Membership
- Membership is invite-only and personal. It isn't a paid service and nothing here is for sale.
- Your access is a privilege, not a right. What you can use depends on the groups you're placed in, which can change.
- Your VPN configs, account and invite are for you alone. Don't share, sell or lend them.
Your account
- Keep your password and authenticator to yourself, and use a unique password.
- You're responsible for what happens under your account and on your devices' VPN connections.
- Tell the admin straight away if you think your account or a device has been compromised, lost or stolen.
Acceptable use
Don't use the lab, or anything reachable through it, to:
- break the law, or store or share anything illegal, including pirated material or content that exploits anyone;
- harass, threaten, impersonate or spam anyone;
- scan, probe, attack or try to get into systems, accounts or data you weren't given, inside the lab or outside it;
- get around access controls, quotas, monitoring or the VPN's restrictions;
- run cryptocurrency mining, open proxies, relays, bulk mailers, or anything that resells the lab's resources;
- host public services for strangers without the admin's okay;
- publish internal details (addresses, hostnames, screenshots of admin pages, configs) that could help someone attack the lab.
Your content
What you upload or create stays yours. You give us only the permission needed to store, back up, process and show it to the people you share it with, so the services work. You're responsible for having the right to store what you upload. We may remove content that breaks these terms or puts the lab at risk.
Keep your own copies of anything important. We do back things up, but the lab is a hobby, not an archive.
Fair use of resources
Storage, bandwidth, CPU and GPU time are shared by a small household of hardware. Big downloads, long-running jobs or game servers that eat a lot of resources are fine when agreed in advance. We may throttle, pause or stop anything that's hurting everyone else.
Security research
Found a vulnerability? Thank you. Please report it privately (see contact), give us reasonable time to fix it, and don't access other people's data, degrade service or keep testing beyond what's needed to show the issue. Good-faith research that follows these rules won't be held against you.
Open source & brand
The lab's configuration is published under the GNU GPL v3.0, and you're welcome to use it under that license. Upstream projects are covered by their own licenses.
The Hager Homelab name and logo identify this lab. You may use them to refer to or link to the lab, as described in the brand guide, but not in a way that suggests you are us or that we endorse you.
Availability
The lab runs on home hardware and a home internet connection. Services may be slow, change, be paused for upgrades, or go away, sometimes without notice. There's no uptime promise or support commitment, though we do our best.
Warranty & liability
The website and all services are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, profits or use, arising from your use of the lab. Because the lab is offered free of charge, our total liability for any claim is limited to zero dollars, or the lowest amount the law permits.
You agree to cover us for claims that arise from your own misuse of the lab or your breach of these terms.
Ending access
You can leave at any time by telling the admin. We may suspend or end your access at any time, especially for breaking these terms or to protect the lab, and will usually explain why. When access ends, your account, VPN devices and stored content are removed as described in the privacy policy, so export anything you want to keep first.
Changes & contact
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version, and the full history is public in the repository. Members will be told about significant changes. Continuing to use the lab after a change means you accept it.
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state where the operator lives. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.
Questions or reports: members, contact the admin directly. Everyone else, reach Preston Hager through GitHub or prestonhager.com.
